## Help Students Find Free Food While Reducing Campus Waste

What if food left over from campus events could reach students who need it instead of going to waste? UT Austin’s Resource Recovery team turned student research into action, creating a simple, opt-in Free Food channel that connects students with available food through the campus app and portal they already use.

### "The Free Food channel is one of the most subscribed channels in the app."

## Why Watch This Video?

See how UT Austin used Modo to turn student feedback and an existing campus resource into a simple, scalable program that supports students while advancing the university’s zero-waste goals.

**Meet students where they already are.**
Free food notifications are delivered through UT Austin’s existing campus app and portal, eliminating the need for students to find and adopt another communication channel.

**Give students control over their communications.**
Students opt in to the Free Food channel, creating a highly relevant audience that actively wants to receive these notifications.

**Make it simple for campus event hosts to participate.**
A straightforward form gives event hosts an easy way to share available food and quickly get the information to interested students.

**Turn a sustainability challenge into student support.**
Instead of discarding leftover food, UT Austin can connect it with students—helping reduce campus food waste while making free food easier to find.
